Development Consultants Private Limited (DCPL) has always recognised its responsibilities as a corporate citizen and strives to fulfil them to the best of its ability. Its founder, the late Dr. Sadhan Chandra Dutt, was a firm believer in Corporate Social Responsibility and built the organisation as a socially responsible business. Ms. Shanta Ghosh, member of the Board of Directors, DCPL, carries this legacy forward.

DCPL discharges its social responsibilities directly as well as through the Economic and Entrepreneurship Development Foundation (EEDF) and the Suresh-Amiya Memorial Trust (SAMT), both established by Dr. Dutt. It also contributes regularly to social and cultural organisations in support of their work. SAMT focuses on early childhood education, art, handicrafts and healthcare.

Public Services

• Undertook several reconstruction, beautification and landscaping projects for prominent landmarks in its home city, Kolkata.
• Provided architectural and engineering support for the restoration of Swami Vivekananda's ancestral house in Kolkata.
• Recognised as a Green Ambassador and awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for participation in the "একটি গাছ মায়ের নামে (Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam)" Campaign, organised by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry with the Department of Forest, Government of West Bengal. The campaign, inspired by the Hon'ble Prime Minister's initiative on World Environment Day 2026, will see 1,00,000 mangrove trees planted across 25 hectares in Kultali Block, South 24 Parganas, within the Indian Sundarbans, by March 2027, with the support of corporate members.

Healthcare

• Established Sri Aurobindo Seva Kendra (SASK), a non-profit hospital offering advanced medical care at moderate fees.

Education

• SAMT patronizes Montessori schools under the Mongrace brand in Kolkata, New Town, Kharagpur and Santiniketan. The Kolkata and Santiniketan units also provide quality education to children in need, building the cognitive skills for lifelong learning in an inclusive and equitable classroom.
• The late Dr. Dutt endowed a chair in Environmental Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), in memory of his parents.

Handicrafts

• SAMT promotes traditional handicrafts through manufacturing units and periodic workshops that help artisans and entrepreneurs upgrade their skills. It also widens their market reach through exhibitions and trade fairs.
• Nabanna, initiated in 2006 by Ms. Shanta Ghosh (Managing Trustee, SAMT), is a ten-day folk art and craft fair held annually at Santiniketan around Basanta Utsav. It gives craftspersons from across India a platform to sell their work and engage directly with buyers. The fair also features workshops for artisans and students, children's art activities, an art camp and exhibition, a medical camp, a literature festival, food pop-ups and cultural programmes.
